FAQS

How do you assess and manage a critically ill patient in the ICU?

Assessment includes evaluating airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and vital parameters. Management involves stabilizing the patient, initiating appropriate investigations, administering medications, monitoring response to treatment, and escalating care to the intensivist when required.

What is your experience with ventilator management and ICU monitoring?

Ventilator management includes selecting appropriate ventilation modes, monitoring oxygenation and ventilation parameters, adjusting settings as per patient condition, and recognizing complications such as ventilator-associated pneumonia or barotrauma. Continuous monitoring of vitals, ABGs, urine output, and laboratory values is essential.

How do you handle medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest or septic shock in the ICU?

In emergencies, I follow standard protocols such as ACLS and sepsis guidelines. Immediate actions include airway management, CPR if required, administering emergency medications, fluid resuscitation, and coordinating with the ICU team for advanced interventions.

How do you manage communication with patient relatives in critical situations?

I communicate clearly, honestly, and empathetically while explaining the patient’s condition, treatment plan, and prognosis. I ensure relatives understand medical updates and coordinate discussions with senior doctors when needed.

How do you manage stress and long working hours in the ICU?

I manage stress by maintaining clinical discipline, teamwork, proper rest during breaks, and focusing on patient-centered care. Effective communication and adherence to protocols help maintain efficiency during long and demanding shifts.
