Senior Resident Dermatology

Clinical responsibilities include independent evaluation and management of dermatology outpatients and inpatients, diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, nail, and venereal diseases, and performance of dermatological procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, electrocautery, and minor surgeries. Senior Residents also handle referrals, manage follow-up cases, and contribute to multidisciplinary patient care.

A Senior Resident is expected to be proficient in skin biopsies, cryotherapy, chemical cautery, intralesional injections, electrosurgery, basic dermatoscopy, and management of dermatological emergencies. Exposure to cosmetic dermatology procedures such as chemical peels, lasers, and aesthetic treatments may also be required depending on institutional facilities.

Academic responsibilities include teaching undergraduate students during clinical postings, guiding junior residents, participating in seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, and assisting in examinations. Senior Residents are also involved in research activities, thesis guidance support, data collection, audits, and preparation of academic presentations or publications.

The Senior Resident role provides structured teaching experience, advanced clinical exposure, and research involvement, which are essential for eligibility and selection to faculty positions. It strengthens academic credentials, improves procedural competence, and builds experience required for roles such as Assistant Professor, Consultant Dermatologist, or academic researcher.

Eligibility requires an MD or DNB in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology from a National Medical Commission-recognized institution. Candidates must have valid registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council. Institutional eligibility norms may vary slightly based on recruitment rules.
