Housemanship Training in General Medicine

The Housemanship Training in General Medicine program is a kind of internship or a hands-on practical experience for medical graduates. The new physician serves as a house officer under the supervision of a registrar or attending physician. The duration of housemanship is different from country to country, usually between one to two years.

Housemanship training in general medicine is an integral component of CRMI, wherein medical interns are under the guidance of senior physicians in hospital environments. Interns here participate in patient care, make medical diagnoses, and acquire practical exposure to the treatment of a variety of ailments. This rotation serves to fill the gap between theoretical knowledge and actual medical practice. 

CRMI stands for Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship. 

In order to be eligible for housemanship training in general medicine, applicants should have an MBBS degree from a medical college recognized by the NMC. They should also have provisional registration with the NMC prior to undertaking their internship. 

The internship program is for one year, and rotations through various medical departments are included. The duration of each rotation varies depending on the curriculum of the institution. 

Housemanship training is not subject to extra charges, as it is included in the MBBS course. Interns are instead paid a stipend, which differs according to the institution and state policies.
