FAQS
What is coronary angiography?
Coronary angiography is a diagnostic procedure that uses contrast dye and X-ray imaging to visualize coronary arteries and detect blockages.
What are common Cath Lab equipment?
Common equipment includes angiography machines, catheters, guidewires, monitors, defibrillators, contrast injectors, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
What is hemodynamic monitoring?
Hemodynamic monitoring is the measurement of blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, and cardiac function during procedures.
What is the difference between a Bare Metal Stent (BMS) and a Drug-Eluting Stent (DES)?
A BMS is a simple mesh tube; it has a higher rate of "restenosis" (re-narrowing). A DES is coated with medication (like Sirolimus) that is released over time to prevent scar tissue growth. Most modern labs primarily use DES unless the patient has a high bleeding risk and cannot tolerate long-term blood thinners.
What is contrast media?
Contrast media is a special dye used during imaging procedures to make blood vessels visible on X-ray or fluoroscopy.
