FAQS

What is catheter ablation?

Catheter ablation is a procedure used to destroy abnormal heart tissue causing arrhythmias using heat (radiofrequency) or cold energy. It helps restore normal heart rhythm. EP technicians assist by operating recording systems and monitoring the patient.

What is an electrophysiology study ?

An electrophysiology study is a diagnostic test that evaluates the heart’s electrical system using catheters inserted into blood vessels. It helps identify the cause of arrhythmias. The technician assists in signal recording and system operation.

What is an ICD?

An Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) is a device that detects and corrects life-threatening arrhythmias by delivering electrical shocks. It is used in patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. Technicians help with device testing and monitoring.

What is an arrhythmia?

An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat, which may be too fast, too slow, or uneven. It occurs when the heart’s electrical signals are disrupted. Examples include atrial fibrillation, tachycardia, and bradycardia.
