Overview
A Vision Rehabilitation Specialist helps individuals with visual impairments maximize their remaining vision and maintain independence in daily life. They assess visual functioning and provide training in adaptive techniques, assistive technologies, and environmental modifications. These specialists often work with patients who have permanent vision loss due to conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy.

Job Description
- Assess functional vision and daily living challenges of individuals with low vision or visual impairments.
- Develop personalized rehabilitation plans to improve the use of remaining vision.
- Train patients in the use of assistive devices, such as magnifiers, screen readers, and specialized software.
- Teach adaptive techniques for everyday tasks like reading, cooking, traveling, and using technology.
- Collaborate with eye care professionals, occupational therapists, and educators to support comprehensive care.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to help patients adjust to vision loss and regain confidence.
- Educate patients and caregivers about home modifications, lighting adjustments, and other accessibility strategies.
