FAQS

What is line clearance and why is it important?

Line clearance is the process of verifying that the production line is free from previous product residues, documents, labels, or materials before starting a new batch. It prevents cross-contamination and mix-ups. IPQA ensures proper documentation and physical verification before batch initiation. It is a critical GMP requirement.

What are Critical Process Parameters (CPP) and Critical Quality Attributes (CQA)?

CPPs are process variables (e.g., temperature, mixing time, compression force) that impact product quality. CQAs are measurable properties (e.g., assay, dissolution, hardness) that determine product safety and efficacy. IPQA monitors CPPs to ensure CQAs remain within specification. Control of CPP ensures consistent product quality.

What is the difference between BMR and BPR?

BMR (Batch Manufacturing Record) contains manufacturing instructions and process steps. BPR (Batch Packaging Record) includes packaging details like labeling, coding, and reconciliation. IPQA reviews both documents for completeness and compliance before batch release. Accurate documentation ensures traceability.

What is reconciliation in pharmaceutical manufacturing?

Reconciliation is the comparison between the quantity of materials issued and the quantity used or returned. It ensures no material loss, mix-up, or diversion. IPQA verifies reconciliation during dispensing, compression, and packaging stages. Acceptable limits are predefined in SOPs.

What is sampling in IPQA and how is it performed?

IPQA performs in-process sampling according to SOP and sampling plan. It ensures samples are representative of the batch. Sampling is done using proper tools and labeled accurately to avoid mix-ups. Samples are sent to QC for analysis.
