FAQS

How do you manage multiple patients or high workload during a busy shift?

When the workload is high, I stay calm and quickly identify which patients need urgent attention. I prioritize care based on severity, plan my tasks in order, and keep my supplies ready to avoid delays. I also communicate with my team so we can coordinate and support each other during rush hours. By staying organized, documenting on time, and focusing on patient safety, I’m able to handle multiple patients efficiently

How do you communicate with patients who are anxious or uncooperative?

I speak to them gently, listen to their concerns, and explain the procedure in very simple language. I reassure them that they are safe and encourage them to take their time. If needed, I involve a family member to help them feel more comfortable. Building trust and showing patience usually helps the patient cooperate better

Explain how you administer an intramuscular (IM) injection safely.

To give an IM injection, I first check the doctor’s order, drug, dose, and expiry date. I wash hands, prepare the medication, identify the correct site (deltoid, vastus lateralis, or dorsogluteal), clean the area, stretch the skin, insert the needle at 90°, aspirate if required by policy, inject slowly, withdraw, and dispose of the needle in a sharps container. I observe the patient for reactions and document the procedure.

How do you monitor and interpret basic vital signs, and what abnormalities do you look for?

I check temperature, pulse, respiration, BP, and oxygen saturation. I look for abnormalities such as high fever, tachycardia/bradycardia, irregular breathing, high/low BP, and low SpO₂. If I notice abnormal values, I immediately inform the senior nurse/doctor and recheck vitals to confirm. Early identification is important to prevent complications.

Explain the steps you follow for infection control and prevention in a hospital.

I follow strict hand hygiene, proper PPE use, aseptic techniques during procedures, and correct biomedical waste segregation using color-coded bins. I disinfect equipment before and after use, avoid cross-contamination, and follow isolation precautions when needed. I also educate patients and attendants about hygiene and safety. Infection control helps reduce hospital-acquired infections.
