An Attending Consultant Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon (CTVS) is a senior super-specialty surgeon with full clinical and operative autonomy, responsible for managing complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical cases. This role represents the highest level of surgical responsibility within cardiothoracic services.

Attending Consultant CTVS Surgeons independently plan and perform major surgeries such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgeries, aortic surgeries, congenital heart defect corrections, thoracic procedures, and complex vascular reconstructions. They lead surgical teams, supervise junior surgeons and residents, manage perioperative decision-making, and coordinate closely with cardiac anesthesiologists, intensivists, cardiologists, and perfusionists. In addition, they often contribute to academic teaching, research, clinical governance, and strategic development of cardiac surgery programs.
