Eligibility generally includes an MBBS degree with valid medical registration, followed by MD or DNB in General Medicine, and completion of DM Cardiology or DNB Cardiology. Formal training in invasive cardiology procedures during super-specialty residency is essential.

Common procedures include diagnostic coronary angiography, cardiac catheterization, temporary pacemaker insertion, hemodynamic assessments, right and left heart studies, and assistance in interventional procedures such as angioplasty and device closures under supervision.

Collaboration involves coordinated decision-making with interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, participation in heart team meetings, effective communication during procedures, and smooth transitions of care to ICU and ward teams.

The role provides extensive procedural exposure, technical skill development, and clinical confidence, enabling progression into Interventional Cardiology, Senior Consultant Cardiology, academic roles, or subspecialty fellowships.
