An HPB Surgery Anaesthesia Consultant is a senior anesthesiologist specializing in managing anesthesia for complex hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) procedures, such as liver resections, pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure), and biliary tract surgeries. These surgeries demand expert-level skills in perioperative care, hemodynamic stability, and organ-specific anesthesia management.

Job Description
- Lead the planning and administration of anesthesia for complex HPB surgeries, considering patient-specific liver, pancreas, or biliary pathology.
- Perform preoperative evaluations, including liver function, coagulation profile, cardiopulmonary status, and risk stratification.
- Guide intraoperative management, including fluid resuscitation, transfusion strategy, and advanced monitoring (arterial lines, central venous pressure, etc.).
- Ensure organ-protective strategies, such as managing hepatic perfusion and avoiding renal compromise during major abdominal procedures.
- Oversee junior anesthesiologists and trainees, providing supervision, teaching, and leadership in high-acuity surgical settings.
- Coordinate with HPB surgical teams and critical care staff to develop integrated perioperative care plans and optimize outcomes.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and patient safety programs related to HPB surgical anesthesia.
