A Senior Consultant Histopathologist examines tissue biopsies and surgical specimens, provides definitive pathological diagnoses, validates reports, correlates histological findings with clinical and radiological data, and advises clinicians on disease staging and prognosis. Several years of post-qualification experience in histopathology is required to attain senior consultant status. Fellowships in oncopathology, molecular pathology, or specialized organ pathology are advantageous.

The recommended pathway is MBBS → MD/DNB Pathology, with focused training and experience in histopathology. Additional fellowships or certifications in oncopathology, molecular diagnostics, digital pathology, or subspecialty histopathology further strengthen expertise.
