Overview
A Pulmonary Nurse specializes in the care and treatment of patients with respiratory issues. They provide essential care for individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions. This role requires a deep understanding of respiratory function, medical treatments, and the ability to manage acute and chronic conditions effectively. Pulmonary Nurses work alongside pulmonologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. They also educate patients about managing their respiratory health at home.
Job Description
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with respiratory disorders, including asthma, COPD, and pneumonia.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, including oxygen levels, lung function, and respiratory status.
- Administer respiratory treatments and medications as prescribed by the doctor.
- Educate patients on managing their conditions, including the use of inhalers, oxygen therapy, and lifestyle changes.
- Provide support and care during respiratory emergencies, such as asthma attacks or exacerbations of lung diseases.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop comprehensive care plans for patients with pulmonary conditions.
- Maintain accurate patient records and monitor progress, adjusting care plans as necessary for optimal recovery.
