Last updated on 16 Oct 2025
Overview
A Plant Molecular Biologist studies the molecular mechanisms that control plant growth, development, stress responses, and gene expression. Using tools like gene editing, DNA/RNA analysis, and protein studies, they aim to understand how plants function at the molecular level to improve crops, protect biodiversity, or develop new plant-based products.

Job Description
- Investigate plant genes and molecular pathways involved in growth, development, stress response, and metabolism.
- Use molecular biology tools (e.g., PCR, cloning, CRISPR, qPCR) to manipulate and study gene function in plants.
- Analyze gene expression using transcriptomics, RNA sequencing, and real-time PCR.
- Conduct functional genomics studies to identify genes responsible for specific traits like drought tolerance or disease resistance.
- Collaborate with geneticists, breeders, and bioinformaticians to translate molecular findings into crop improvement.
- Maintain and manage laboratory experiments including transgenic plant development, tissue culture, and phenotyping.
- Publish research findings in scientific journals and contribute to academic, industrial, or applied agricultural research.
