Overview
A Disease Biologist is a scientist who studies the biological mechanisms of diseases—how they develop, spread, and affect living organisms. Their research can focus on human, animal, or plant diseases and typically involves understanding pathogens (like viruses, bacteria, or parasites), host responses, and disease transmission dynamics.

Job Description
- Investigate the biology of diseases, including their causes (e.g., pathogens, genetic factors) and how they spread.
- Study host-pathogen interactions to understand immune responses and mechanisms of infection.
- Use molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gene sequencing, microscopy) to analyze disease processes.
- Develop or evaluate diagnostics, treatments, or vaccines for infectious or chronic diseases.
- Monitor and model disease transmission in populations or ecosystems, especially in public health or wildlife contexts.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists, immunologists, and clinicians to translate findings into practical applications.
- Contribute to public health or agricultural safety, especially by tracking emerging diseases or antimicrobial resistance.
