A Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist is a medical doctor who diagnoses, treats, and helps prevent complex and serious infections in newborns, children, and adolescents. They are experts in managing infectious diseases that are rare, resistant, or complicated, and often consult on hospital-acquired infections, immune-compromised patients, and travel-related illnesses.

Job Description
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of infections in children, including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic diseases.
- Manage complex or rare infections, such as tuberculosis, HIV, meningitis, osteomyelitis, and multi-drug-resistant organisms.
- Provide infection control and prevention guidance in hospital and community settings.
- Consult on immunocompromised patients, including those with cancer, transplant recipients, or primary immune deficiencies.
- Advise on vaccination schedules, especially in special cases like international travel, premature infants, or chronic illness.
- Interpret specialized lab tests, such as cultures, PCR, and serologies, to guide treatment.
- Collaborate with pediatricians and subspecialists, often in multidisciplinary teams, for comprehensive infection management.
