Overview
An Otology Specialist is a medical doctor (often an ENT surgeon) who focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases of the ear, including hearing loss, ear infections, balance disorders, and structural problems of the middle and inner ear. They may perform both medical and surgical treatments.

Job Description
- Diagnose and treat disorders of the ear, such as chronic ear infections, hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo.
- Perform surgeries on the ear, including tympanoplasty (eardrum repair), ossiculoplasty (middle ear bone repair), and cochlear implant placement.
- Treat balance disorders caused by inner ear problems like Ménière’s disease or vestibular neuritis.
- Manage congenital and acquired hearing loss, using both medical and surgical interventions.
- Collaborate with audiologists for diagnostic hearing tests and hearing aid or implant planning.
- Address skull base and lateral cranial conditions, especially if trained in neurotology.
- Follow up with long-term care, especially for chronic conditions, implant management, or post-surgical rehabilitation.
