FAQS

How do you process serious adverse event cases in pharmacovigilance?

Serious adverse event cases are prioritized because they require expedited reporting within strict regulatory timelines. The process includes case validation, data entry, MedDRA coding, medical review, and submission to regulatory authorities. Accuracy and timely processing are essential for patient safety and compliance.

How do you assess causality in adverse drug reactions?

Causality assessment involves evaluating temporal association, dechallenge and rechallenge information, alternative causes, and known drug safety profiles. Tools such as the WHO-UMC scale or Naranjo algorithm may be used. Proper assessment supports accurate safety evaluation.

What are aggregate safety reports in pharmacovigilance?

Aggregate reports summarize cumulative safety information for a product over a defined period. Examples include PSURs, PBRERs, and DSURs. These reports help evaluate the overall benefit-risk profile of medicines.

How do you evaluate the seriousness of an adverse event?

Seriousness is determined based on criteria such as death, hospitalization, disability, congenital anomaly, or life-threatening conditions. Regulatory guidelines define these criteria clearly. Proper classification affects reporting timelines and compliance obligations.

What is the role of case narratives in regulatory submissions?

Case narratives provide detailed summaries of adverse events and help regulators understand the clinical context of a report. They highlight timelines, treatments, and outcomes clearly. Well-structured narratives support efficient safety assessment.
