Officer/Sr Officer-Quality Control (QC)

The primary role is to conduct quality testing of materials and products, ensure compliance with specifications, document results accurately, and support batch release decisions in line with regulatory requirements.

A Senior QC Officer handles advanced testing, investigations, method validation, audit readiness, and guides junior staff, while a QC Officer focuses on routine analysis and execution of approved procedures.

Tests include physical, chemical, and instrumental analyses such as assay, dissolution, impurity testing, stability testing, moisture analysis, microbiological testing, and in-process quality checks.

They follow approved OOS procedures, conduct root cause analysis, document investigations, implement corrective actions, and report findings to Quality Assurance for final decisions.

Attention to detail, analytical thinking, integrity, documentation discipline, regulatory awareness, and consistency in following SOPs are essential qualities.

To become a QC Officer or Senior Officer, candidates typically need a BPharm, MPharm, BSc, MSc (Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Senior roles usually require additional years of industry experience.

Key skills include analytical testing, laboratory instrument handling, GMP/GLP knowledge, SOP adherence, documentation accuracy, data integrity awareness, investigation handling, and regulatory compliance understanding. Senior Officers also need leadership and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities include sampling and testing of materials and products, maintaining laboratory records, method execution and validation, stability studies, handling deviations and OOS, ensuring compliance with quality standards, audit support, and continuous improvement of quality systems.

With experience, professionals can progress to QC Supervisor, QC Manager, Quality Assurance Officer, Validation Specialist, Regulatory Affairs Executive, Compliance Manager, or Quality Head roles across manufacturing, R&D, and regulatory domains.

In India, the salary typically ranges from ₹3 LPA to ₹6 LPA for QC Officers and ₹6 LPA to ₹10 LPA for Senior QC Officers, depending on industry, experience, regulatory exposure, location, and organization size.
