Senior Resident Pharmacology

A Senior Resident Pharmacology is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting theory lectures and practical sessions, mentoring junior residents and tutors, and assisting in curriculum planning. They are actively involved in clinical research, pharmacovigilance programs, ethics committee coordination, and publication of research papers. Administrative responsibilities within the department are also part of the role.

Senior Residents contribute by supporting rational drug therapy, participating in hospital drug committees, conducting drug utilization studies, and assisting clinicians with drug-related queries. They also play a role in ADR reporting, pharmacovigilance audits, and implementation of standard treatment guidelines

The essential course is MD Pharmacology, obtained through NEET-PG admission. Additional certifications in Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Medical Education Technology, and Biostatistics are highly beneficial and enhance academic and clinical competence.

Resident Pharmacologists work in government and private medical colleges, teaching hospitals, central institutes (AIIMS, PGIMER), clinical research organizations, and pharmacovigilance centers. Some also work in regulatory bodies, pharmaceutical research units, and academic research institutes.

Graduates can work as Consultant Clinical Pharmacologists, Assistant/Associate Professors, Principal Investigators in clinical trials, Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance Heads, or Regulatory Medical Officers.
