Overview
A Radiopharmaceutical Technologist specializes in preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive substances) for use in medical imaging procedures, most commonly in nuclear medicine. These professionals work closely with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive safe and accurate diagnostic scans, such as PET and SPECT scans, to evaluate the function of organs and tissues. They also manage the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials used in medical treatments.

Job Description
- Prepare radiopharmaceuticals based on physician orders, ensuring proper doses and correct administration protocols.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients for diagnostic imaging procedures, including PET, SPECT, and other nuclear medicine scans.
- Operate imaging equipment in conjunction with radiopharmaceuticals to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, ensuring safety and comfort during the imaging process.
- Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Record and maintain accurate patient and radiopharmaceutical data, following privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to interpret imaging results and assist in diagnosing medical conditions.
