Who is eligible to apply for the EDBI exam?
The qualifications are limited to applicants with a minimum of 5 years of radiology training, 2 years of exclusively devoted subspecialty experience in breast imaging, and evidence of practising as a licensed radiologist. Applicants must provide documentation of 800 mammograms, 500 breast ultrasounds, 50 breast MRIs, and 25 interventional breast procedures within the last two years. In addition, have finished 50 CME in breast imaging and 2 EUSOBI during the past 3 years. The candidates are expected to be complete members of EUSOBI and the ESR.
What are the benefits of holding the EDBI certification?
The EDBI certification recognizes that a radiologist has knowledge in the field of breast imaging, which increases professional awareness in Europe. It guarantees the quality of high competency in mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and breast interventions to colleagues and patients. It helps in career building and reputation as a subspecialist in breast imaging.
What is the structure of the EDBI examination?
The exam has two main steps. Step I is the application with documentation of training, practice, and CME. Step II is the exam itself, comprising a 75-to-80-minute written test with multiple-choice questions based on breast imaging modalities and clinical cases, followed by a 20-minute oral exam where cases are discussed in detail. Both parts must be passed together.
How can I apply for the European Diploma in Breast Imaging?
A complete application form with detailed documentation, such as evidence of training completion, RIS logbook of breast imaging cases, CME certificates, a letter of support confirming experience as a subspecialist, and evidence of EUSOBI/ESR membership, is also submitted by the applicants. Entries are done on a first-come, first-served basis. On passing the eligibility, the candidates pay the exam fee and are allotted the Step II exam.
What topics are covered in the EDBI curriculum?
The curriculum covers all aspects of breast imaging, including mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and interventional procedures. It also covers clinical practice, breast pathology relevant to imaging, technical parameters, imaging limitations, and diagnosis. The knowledge base aligns with the ESR European Training Curriculum for Subspecialisation in Radiology (Level III), excluding screening program management or extramammary staging.
