Overview
High proficiency in lactation clinical care is indicated by the Licensed Lactation Consultant credential. Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) handle complicated feeding situations, such as chronic illness, tongue-tie, adoption, and newborn problems. The practice involves private consultations, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and NICUs. Anatomy, physiology, counseling, ethics, and policy are all covered in training. Advanced skills are developed through clinical hours (minimum 300–500) under IBCLC mentors. CLCs support diverse families, plan feeding schedules, coordinate care, and evaluate dyads. They remain up to date on best practices and research on lactation. After being evaluated and certified, CLCs provide professional advice and referrals as required.
