A Cancer Reconstruction Consultant is a surgical expert—typically from a plastic, reconstructive, or oncoplastic surgery background—who specializes in restoring appearance and function after cancer surgery. They work closely with oncology teams to help patients recover physically and emotionally following tumor resections that involve disfigurement or loss of tissue.

Job Description
- Plan and perform reconstructive surgeries following cancer removal from the breast, head and neck, limbs, or other areas.
- Collaborate with oncologic surgeons to ensure that both cancer clearance and optimal reconstruction are achieved in one or multiple stages.
- Use advanced surgical techniques, such as flap reconstruction, tissue expanders, microsurgery, and grafting to restore form and function.
- Address functional restoration, including swallowing, breathing, speaking, or limb movement, especially after complex oncologic procedures.
- Provide personalized reconstruction options, balancing oncologic safety with patient-centered goals for aesthetics and quality of life.
- Manage postoperative care and complications, including flap monitoring, wound healing, and surgical site infections.
- Offer psychological and aesthetic support, helping patients regain body image, confidence, and social integration after cancer treatment.
