According to the WHO, a suspected Marburg virus outbreak in Tanzania's Kagera region has claimed eight lives, with nine cases reported so far. This virus will likely cause a regional spread due to Kagera’s cross-border connections. Marburg virus is a highly fatal virus linked to fruit bats and human-to-human transmission through bodily fluids. WHO is assisting Tanzanian authorities as disease surveillance intensifies, and contacts of infected individuals are being monitored closely.
