India has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for eliminating trachoma, a bacterial eye infection that was once a leading cause of blindness in the country. India is now the third country in the WHO South-East Asia Region, after Nepal and Myanmar, to achieve this milestone. The achievement was officially acknowledged at the 77th WHO South-East Asia Regional Committee meeting in New Delhi, where India received the citation for its success in eradicating trachoma as a public health problem.
