The Gujarat State Health Department had recently announced to upgrade 5 district hospitals to medical colleges in Navsari, Porbandar, Rajpipla, Godhra and Morbi. The each medical college has proposed to have 100 MBBS seats in academic year which will be on total MBBS seats in state to increase up to 6200. Currently, the state has 31 medical colleges, which is going to be 36. The colleges will be managed under Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS).
