Medical students are reeling from the Government's decision to merge Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)  into the General category for MBBS admissions. This move has slashed 10% seats in the General quota, sparkling calls for an increase to accommodate students. The Govt, has introduced EWS(10%) quota this year in addition to the existing SC (15%) ST (7%) and OBC (27%). This year over 7,000 general category students missed out on MBBS admissions, edged out by the EWS category. Earlier the General quota was 51% which now stands at 41%.
